Why Install a Standby Generator?

Power outages aren’t scheduled. They can happen at any time in any place. We have all seen on the news storms that can knock out power to thousands of people for undetermined periods of time. While hurricanes and tornadoes are attention grabbers, it’s still important to remember that almost 60% of weather-related outages are caused by thunderstorms that happen all over the place.

When you install a Generac home standby generator, you are always protected — even if you are away from home. If an outage occurs, the generator will start up automatically and since it’s permanently connected to your electrical system, there’s nothing you need to do when you lose power. Also, if the generator is connected to the natural gas line, you don’t have to worry about refueling.

How does a Generac Generator Work?

When you lose power due to a storm, surge, or grid failure, your Generac Generator will detect the problem automatically. Within seconds, your generator will start preparing to restore the power to your home. A few seconds later, your generator will turn on and generate electricity to power your home — whether you are at home or away. Finally, the automatic transfer switch will send the generator power through your home and will continue to power your home until your utility provider is back up and running.

Why Choose Generac?

Research has shown that 8 out of 10 consumers are more likely to choose Generac for their home standby power.

Generac Generator Installation Process

Our team has been installing Generac generators for years now. We are proud to be designated as a PowerProElite dealer. When you choose us as your Generec generator installer, you can be sure we will get the job done correctly.

Generally there are four steps when it comes to installing a generator.

  • Choose a location - We will help you choose the best location for your generator. Ideally the location should be stable and not prone to flooding. There should be enough room around the generator so a technician and maintenance personnel can access it in the future. You should also keep in mind any HOA or community restrictions that may be in place. The closer the installation site is to a natural gas line and the electric meter, the more you will save.
  • Installing - The site will be prepared with a concreate slab or pea gravel. Then the generator will be placed on the foundation.
  • Connecting - The fuel line will be connected next and a transfer switch will be installed next to your main electrical panel. The transfer switch is used to sense where your power is coming from and when to switch it to the generator.
  • Testing - Next, we will simulate an outage situation to make sure everything is working correctly.

How Much Power Do I Need?

Determining how much standby power your home will need depends on a variety of different factors. Some include: the size of your home, how much power you consume on a regular basis, and what items you want to back up.
